The Rocky Wonder Aloe Nursery is a must see for any visitors to the Lower Mpushini Valley. Situated only 10 minutes from Pietermaritzburg. It is owned by Peter and Heather Poulsen, it boasts 200 species of aloes which are indigenous to South Africa, the rest of Africa and Madagascar. There are also a number of interesting hybrid aloes.

  • Aloe gardens displaying all aloes in mature form.
  • The farm also has some interesting walking trails where visitors can walk among the many species of wildlife including over 130 species of birds, numerous species of antelope, zebras, wildebeest, vervet monkeys and bushveld vegetation.
There are also self-catering chalets available to rent for those who wish to stay overnight.

How to get there:

Take the exit 69 off the N3 highway at Ashburton – turn right towards Ashburton East – pass the Ashburton Training Centre on your left – pass the Ashburton Quarry on your right – take the right-hand fork at the end of the tarmac road and travel along District Road 389 for approximately 2.5 km – the Rocky Wonder Aloe Nursery entrance is on your left.
