Indigenous plants for the understorey and shady areas

When we plant trees in our indigenous gardens we require some form of groundcover to protect the bare ground that will exist under the trees due to the shade.  Only certain plants can survive in shade or semi-shade conditions.

Index to the plants which are featured on this website that are suitable for the garden understorey and for growing in shady positions:

Scadoxus puniceus (Blood or Snake Lilly)
